'Boletus edulis' is a typical edible hat mushroom widely spread in European gastronomy, where it is known by a large number of names. The origin of this is Greco-Latin, by 946; 969; 955; 951; 964; 951; 962; ( boletes "mushroom with ball hat") and edulis ("edible" ).

It is the scientific name of a highly appreciated edible mushroom. It is also named after pumpkin mushroom, pumpkin, white mushroom, white mushroom, pambazo mushroom. The genus name ( Boletus ) in ancient Greek means mushroom and edulis, which is the epithet, meaning edible, that you can eat; hence the whole scientific name "Boletus edulis", means edible mushroom.
